Agra: Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a woman in connection with a serious assault case reported nearly 11 months ago in the Barhan area of Agra. The woman is accused of attacking her brother-in-law after he allegedly refused to marry her sister.
According to the police, the incident took place on the night of October 20, 2025, after Diwali celebrations. The victim, who worked as a chemical assistant engineer at a cement company in Haldwani, had returned home for the festival.
Victim Attacked Inside Room
As per the complaint, the man was sleeping outside the house after the Diwali puja when his sister-in-law allegedly called him into a room at around 2 am. Police said she then attacked him with a blade, causing serious injuries.
The victim's cries alerted other family members, who woke up and rushed to his aid. Police reached the spot and took him to SN Medical College for treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to AIIMS in Delhi.
Accused Remained Untraceable
Following the incident, the accused woman's husband reportedly took her to her parental home in Etah. She remained away from the village thereafter and could not be located by the police.
After continued efforts, police traced and arrested her from the residence of a relative.
Attempt-to-Murder Charge Added
DCP West Zone Aditya Singh said the medical examination indicated that the injuries sustained by the victim were serious and could have been life-threatening. Based on the medical findings, the police added an attempt-to-murder charge to the case.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing.
