New Delhi. A case of alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl has been reported from the Astha Kunj area near Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple. Police have arrested three accused in connection with the case. One of them, 34-year-old Asif, a resident of Tughlakabad, was arrested following a police encounter and was admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after sustaining a gunshot injury.
According to police, the girl had visited Kalkaji Temple with her minor male friend. After offering prayers, the two entered Astha Kunj Park through Gate No. 7. Three men allegedly approached them and threatened them while claiming to be policemen.
The accused allegedly separated the girl from her friend and took her to an isolated area. Police said Asif allegedly threatened the girl with a weapon and sexually assaulted her. The other two accused are also alleged to have been involved in the crime. The three men allegedly threatened the girl and her friend before fleeing the spot.
After receiving information about the incident, a team from Amar Colony Police Station reached Astha Kunj. The girl was taken to AIIMS for a medical examination. Crime and forensic teams also inspected the spot and collected evidence.
During the investigation, police received information about Asif’s presence near the DM Office Road in Amar Colony. A police team reportedly surrounded the area and attempted to stop him. According to police, Asif tried to escape and allegedly fired three rounds at the police team. One of the bullets hit the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh.
Police said the officer fired in self-defence, and one bullet hit Asif in the leg. He was subsequently taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. The other two accused have also been arrested.
Police have registered an FIR and launched a detailed investigation into the case. Officials said the girl’s age is estimated to be between 16 and 17 years and that her medical examination has been conducted. Further questioning of the accused is underway to establish the complete sequence of events.
