Meerut Court Delivers Verdict in Amit Kashyap Murder
On Wednesday, Additional District Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar of Meerut’s District Court No. 12 pronounced a guilty verdict against Ravita, the wife of the late Amit Kashyap, and her purported lover Amardeep. Both defendants were escorted from jail under tight security to hear the judgment.
Background of the Crime
The tragedy dates to April 2025, when Amit Kashyap was discovered lifeless inside his residence in the Bahsuma police‑station jurisdiction of Akbarpur Sadat village. Prosecutors allege that Ravita and Amardeep conspired to end his life.
Prosecution’s Narrative of a Coordinated Attack
According to the state’s case, Ravita allegedly restrained her husband while Amardeep strangled him. Investigators quickly dismissed the possibility of an accidental death, treating the incident as a pre‑planned homicide.
One of the most striking elements of the prosecution’s theory was the attempt to stage the scene as a snakebite. After the killing, a live snake was allegedly placed beside the body to mislead investigators.
The child who first discovered the foul play was Amit’s five‑year‑old son, Aniket, who noticed his father unresponsive the following morning. Family members arrived, found a snake near the corpse, and secured the reptile in a container.
Subsequent medical examinations contradicted the snakebite hypothesis, prompting police to redirect their inquiry and eventually arrest Ravita and Amardeep.
Witness Testimony That Shaped the Case
The prosecution called 12 witnesses to the stand. Among them, Amit’s mother Munesh and his brother Monu recounted seeing Amardeep enter the house on the night of the murder.
A snake‑charmer also took the stand, identifying Amardeep as the source of the snake that had been “borrowed” for a purported religious programme. This testimony bolstered the claim that the reptile was deliberately introduced to fabricate a false cause of death.
Defense’s Counter‑Narrative
Ravita did not present any witnesses in her defence. Amardeep’s uncle testified that his nephew was staying at his maternal uncle’s home on the day in question, attempting to create an alibi.
Verdict and Next Steps
After weighing the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Ravita and Amardeep guilty of murder, concluding the trial phase. Amit’s mother Munesh has urged the bench to impose a severe penalty. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for 16 October.
