New Delhi: On the occasion of National Engineers’ Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the great engineer and statesman Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Extending his greetings to engineers across the country, PM Modi praised their contributions to nation-building, innovation and the development of new technologies.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that engineers play a pivotal role in laying the foundation for a better future, shaping new ideas and finding solutions to various challenges. He described Sir M. Visvesvaraya’s engineering prowess and vision for the country’s development as an enduring source of inspiration.
PM Modi also shared a video on the occasion. In it, he said that the work of engineers is not limited to building machines and developing technologies; through their skills and hard work, they also turn dreams into reality. Highlighting the achievements of Indian engineers, he said that many of them have demonstrated their capabilities to the world by successfully taking on challenging projects.
Recalling Sir M. Visvesvaraya’s legacy, the Prime Minister said that his contribution to India’s rich engineering tradition remains significant. His work continues to serve as a testament to his talent and foresight. PM Modi added that, inspired by Visvesvaraya’s legacy, Indian engineers have established a strong presence on the global stage.
National Engineers’ Day is observed every year on September 15 to mark the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who was born on September 15, 1861. He is particularly remembered for his contribution to the development of modern Mysore.
Visvesvaraya contributed to several major public projects across the country. He played a key role in the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore and also made significant contributions to the development of flood-control systems.
In recognition of his contributions to engineering and nation-building, the Government of India awarded him the Bharat Ratna in 1955. September 15 is observed as National Engineers’ Day in his honor.
