Patna: A large number of aspirants took to the streets on Tuesday to protest against alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and demand greater transparency in Bihar’s recruitment process. The students marched from Gandhi Maidan towards Raj Bhavan with a 13-point list of demands. They demanded the cancellation and re-conduct of the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination, an impartial probe into alleged irregularities in the BPSC 70th examination, and action on issues related to the BSSC examination.
The march, which began at Gandhi Maidan, reached JP Golambar, where police and CRPF personnel stopped the protesters by putting up barricades. Some aspirants climbed the barricades, leading to a confrontation with the police. Later, some protesters moved towards Dak Bungalow Crossing via Exhibition Road, but they were stopped there as well.
Questions Raised Over SI Recruitment Examination
The protesting aspirants alleged irregularities in the SI recruitment examination conducted for 1,799 posts. The students pointed out that the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) is investigating the matter and demanded that the examination be cancelled and conducted afresh.
The aspirants also demanded an impartial probe into alleged irregularities in the BPSC 70th examination. They said they had received repeated assurances regarding investigations and action, but no concrete solution had emerged so far.
Romit’s Family Also Joins Protest
Following the death of Romit, an SI recruitment aspirant, his family members joined the students’ protest in Patna. Romit’s mother and brother appealed to the government for justice. The family demanded greater transparency in competitive examinations and strict action against alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.
In an emotional appeal, Romit’s mother said that she had lost her son and did not want any other family in Bihar to suffer a similar loss. According to his family, Romit was a bright student who had also cleared the NET examination and aspired to become a police sub-inspector.
Demand for ₹1 Crore and Government Job for Family
The protesting candidates demanded financial assistance of ₹1 crore for Romit’s family and a government job for one of his family members. The students said that Romit’s death had raised serious questions about the recruitment examination system and alleged irregularities in the process.
The protesters urged the government to take swift and concrete action on their 13-point list of demands. They warned that the agitation would be intensified if their demands were not addressed.
