At his official residence in Dehradun, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami hosted a delegation from the Pradesh Pradhan Sangathan. Led by state president Yogita Kentura Rawat, the group discussed the pivotal role of Gram Panchayats and the state’s slate of rural‑development programmes.
Gram Panchayats: The Grassroots Engine of Democracy
Dhami opened the dialogue by underscoring that Gram Panchayats rank among India’s most vital democratic institutions. He noted that village heads and elected Panchayat members serve as the first point of contact for citizens, resolving local grievances, steering development projects, and ensuring that welfare schemes reach the people who need them most.
The chief minister described Gram Pradhans as the essential bridge linking ordinary villagers with the administration, helping to identify pressing needs and craft practical solutions for rural communities.
State Priorities for Rural Uttarakhand
According to Dhami, the government’s commitment to a holistic uplift of the countryside rests on four pillars:
- Infrastructure upgrades – better roads, reliable drinking‑water systems, upgraded schools, primary‑health‑care facilities, and improved sanitation.
- Economic revitalisation – strengthening the rural economy through skill‑building, micro‑enterprises, and agriculture‑friendly policies.
- Employment generation – creating jobs within villages to curb migration and boost local incomes.
- Inclusive welfare – ensuring that every segment of society benefits from development initiatives, raising living standards across the board.
He highlighted that Uttarakhand’s true strength lies in its villages, cultural traditions, and agrarian base, and that empowering these units is key to achieving a self‑reliant state.
Active Participation of Panchayat Leaders
Dhami stressed that elected representatives must be actively involved in planning and executing projects that reflect the unique needs of their constituencies. He affirmed that the government values the on‑the‑ground insights of Panchayat members and will provide them with meaningful opportunities to shape development agendas.
Providing Gram Panchayats with a seat at the planning table and upgrading essential rural facilities were identified as top government priorities.
Looking Ahead: Collaboration for Faster Progress
The chief minister expressed confidence that the Pradesh Pradhan Sangathan, together with village‑level leaders, will continue to cooperate closely with the state administration, accelerating rural development and strengthening local governance.
