Statewide drive to bring back 19 lakh voters

The Election Department of Chhattisgarh has begun a month‑long, door‑to‑door campaign aimed at locating eligible citizens whose names were omitted from the electoral rolls after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The effort spans all 90 Assembly constituencies and targets roughly 19 lakh people for re‑enrolment.

Background: why names disappeared

During the SIR exercise, about 25 lakh entries were deleted from the state's voter lists. Around 6 lakh of those belonged to deceased individuals, while nearly 19 lakh were removed for other reasons, such as incomplete documentation or failure to appear for verification. The current drive focuses on the latter group, giving them a fresh chance to be listed again.

How the campaign will operate

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct systematic house‑to‑house visits. Their tasks include identifying households where eligible residents missed the enumeration, assisting them with the required paperwork, and guiding them through the submission of Form 6 to request inclusion in the electoral roll.

No 2003 roll details required

Applicants under this special re‑enrolment scheme are not asked to provide information from the 2003 electoral roll. They must, however, present the standard documents prescribed for voter registration, and BLOs will help clarify exactly what is needed.

First‑time voters are also part of the push

The initiative is not limited to those previously on the roll. Young citizens who have just attained voting age will be identified and encouraged to submit Form 6 as well. BLOs are tasked with spotting these new electors during their field visits.

Goal: accurate and inclusive voter lists

The department aims to finalize the re‑enrolment before the official roll is published, ensuring that no eligible resident is unintentionally excluded. By combining rigorous field verification with simplified paperwork, the drive seeks to make Chhattisgarh’s electoral rolls both precise and comprehensive.
