Ludhiana. Political activity has intensified in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections. On Saturday, BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu staged a protest during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s event in Ludhiana. Allegations were made that tomatoes were thrown at the Chief Minister’s convoy during the incident. Following the protest, police detained Bittu.

Chief Minister Mann had arrived at Punjab Agricultural University to attend a ‘Kisan Mela’ (farmers’ fair). As his convoy was leaving after the event, Bittu, accompanied by BJP workers, staged a protest. Holding a liquor bottle, he targeted the Chief Minister and claimed that he had come to return the bottle to him.

Bittu leveled allegations against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the drug menace in Punjab. He said the BJP would continue its protests against the Punjab government. He also alleged that Aam Aadmi Party workers had earlier thrown eggs at his convoy near Batala.

Ludhiana Protest Follows Batala Incident

According to Bittu, he was travelling to Pathankot on Friday to participate in the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ (Drug-Free Punjab March) when eggs were allegedly thrown at his convoy near Batala. He claimed that his security team apprehended three people, after which police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.

Referring to the Batala incident during the Ludhiana protest, Bittu said that if protests could be held against BJP leaders and their marches, BJP workers also had the right to protest against the government in a democratic manner.

After being detained by police, Bittu said the BJP would continue to raise issues concerning Punjab despite such action. He added that the party would continue to hold democratic protests outside the Chief Minister’s events and government offices whenever necessary.
