Dehradun. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered strict action against six engineers following complaints of contaminated drinking water supply in the Jyolikot area of Nainital district. Based on a report submitted by the district administration, six officials from the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan and Drinking Water Corporation have been suspended with immediate effect for alleged negligence in carrying out their responsibilities.
The issue came to the government’s attention after complaints regarding contaminated water supply were reported from Jyolikot. Taking the matter seriously, CM Dhami directed senior officials to conduct an inquiry and fix responsibility. Following the investigation, the district administration’s report led to disciplinary action against the six engineers.
Those suspended include the in-charge Superintending Engineer of Jal Sansthan, Haldwani, an Assistant Engineer and Additional Assistant Engineer associated with Nainital Jal Sansthan, as well as the Executive Engineer, in-charge Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer of Drinking Water Corporation, Bhimtal.
The Executive Engineer of Nainital Jal Sansthan has also been issued a warning, with the government making it clear that stricter action could follow in case of any further lapse.
CM Dhami Warns Officials Over Public Health
CM Dhami said protecting public health remains a key priority of the state government and that negligence in matters directly affecting people’s health will not be tolerated.
He has directed heads of departments and senior officials to handle public-related issues with greater responsibility and sensitivity and ensure prompt action wherever complaints concerning essential services arise.
The government’s latest action comes a day after another directive from the Chief Minister led to action in the NEET UG 2026 state-centralised counselling case involving alleged admissions based on fake certificates. So far, certificates of eight candidates have been cancelled and their admission processes have also been revoked.
‘Public Interest Is Paramount’
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said the government would take action against officials and employees found ignoring public interests.
He said, “Public health cannot be compromised at any cost. Public interest is paramount for our government, and action will be taken against any officer or employee who ignores the interests of the people. All department heads and senior officials have also been repeatedly instructed in this regard.”
