Jamui. The main accused in the Jamui case involving the alleged harassment and assault of two minor students was injured during a police encounter on Tuesday. Nandan Yadav sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the operation and was subsequently taken into custody and admitted to Jamui Sadar Hospital for treatment. The development came after a video of the incident surfaced on social media and triggered widespread outrage.
According to reports, the incident took place on September 19 when the two minor students were allegedly intercepted by a group of men. The incident was recorded and the video later circulated on social media, prompting the police to identify those involved and begin arrests. Police had earlier arrested three accused and formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the case.
During the latest operation, police teams were conducting raids to trace the remaining accused. The encounter was reported near Kunder on the Jamui-Lakhisarai border. Police sources said the accused allegedly attempted to escape during the operation, following which the exchange of fire took place. Nandan Yadav was injured in the leg and taken to the hospital.
Another accused, identified as Hareram Yadav, was also reportedly injured during the police operation. However, details regarding his condition and the exact circumstances are still being investigated.
Jamui District Magistrate Naveen Kumar visited the hospital after the incident and took information about the developments from officials. Police teams are continuing raids to locate the remaining suspects and are examining the circumstances surrounding the encounter.
Police Probe Continues
The case gained attention after the alleged harassment video was circulated online. Police have been examining the footage to identify the accused and establish their individual roles. Authorities have also taken action over the circulation of material that could reveal the identity of the minor victim.
The National Commission for Women has also taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and sought action in the case.
Police said the investigation remains underway, with teams working to apprehend the remaining accused and establish the full sequence of events.
