Deoghar. A joint team of Deoghar Cyber Police and Madhupur Police has arrested four alleged cyber fraudsters from the Madhupur police station area. Six mobile phones and four SIM cards were recovered from their possession.

The action followed a tip-off received by Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar. A special team was constituted under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Kailash Prasad Mahto, which conducted the operation and apprehended the suspects.

The arrested accused have been identified as Anish Das of Bariyahi Garha in Madhupur, Sumesh Mehra of Kharnna village in Sarath, Rahul Das of Rohini Ajan Tola in Jasidih and Dinesh Das of Guniasol in Madhupur.

During questioning, police said the accused admitted to their alleged involvement in cyber fraud and disclosed their modus operandi. According to investigators, they posed as fake customer care representatives of digital payment platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm.

The accused allegedly lured victims with offers related to cashback, PM-Kisan benefits, electricity bill payments and RTO challans. After gaining their confidence, they sent fake APK files to the victims’ mobile phones. Once the files were downloaded, the accused allegedly gained unauthorized access to the devices and used it to siphon money from linked bank accounts.

Police have started a detailed technical examination of the seized mobile phones and SIM cards. Investigators are also trying to determine the number of victims linked to the accused and trace the accounts through which the allegedly defrauded money was transferred.

All four accused have been sent to judicial custody.
