A Sudden Reversal in Begusarai
Rajkishor Singh, who earlier this week announced his alignment with the Jan Suraaj platform, surprised local observers by issuing a video statement the very next day. In the clip, Singh affirmed that he will remain a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and will work to promote the party’s officially nominated candidate in the upcoming polls.
He made it clear that he does not intend to file his own nomination. Instead, Singh said he will stay out of the electoral fray and focus on campaigning for the BJP’s chosen contender.
Why the Flip Matters
The timing of Singh’s statements has amplified their impact. Media reports of his Jan Suraaj affiliation emerged on Sunday, prompting speculation about a potential realignment that could weaken the BJP’s foothold in Begusarai. By retracting that move on Monday, Singh not only halted the speculation but also reinforced the party’s internal cohesion at a critical juncture.
Political analysts note that such a rapid change—within a 24‑hour window—creates ripples across the district’s electoral calculations, especially as parties scramble to consolidate support bases.
Deep Roots in the RSS and BJP
Singh highlighted his four‑decade‑long association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), describing it as the guiding force behind his latest decision. He explained that the counsel he received from RSS seniors steered him away from contesting the election and toward continuing his work within the BJP framework.
Having served in several key organisational roles, including a stint as the BJP’s district president, Singh’s endorsement carries weight among cadres and grassroots workers. His experience and longstanding ties to the party’s ideological parent, the RSS, lend credibility to his pledge of support for the official candidate.
For now, Singh’s stance is unequivocal: he will not be a candidate, but he will mobilise his networks to aid the BJP’s campaign in Begusarai, citing his ideological lineage and the guidance of the RSS as the primary reasons for staying the course.
