New Delhi. The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for biennial elections to 28 seats in the Legislative Councils of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The seats include constituencies representing graduates and teachers. Polling across all 28 constituencies will be held on October 23, 2026, while counting of votes will take place on October 27.
As per the announced schedule, the election notification will be issued on September 29, while candidates can file their nominations until October 6. Voting will be conducted from 8 am to 4 pm on October 23.
The elections are being held as the terms of the existing members of these constituencies approach completion. Bihar has eight seats falling vacant in November, while four Karnataka seats will complete their terms in November. Five Maharashtra seats and 11 Uttar Pradesh seats are due to become vacant in December.
Maharashtra: Five Constituencies
Elections will be held for the Aurangabad Graduates, Pune Graduates, Nagpur Graduates, Amravati Teachers and Pune Teachers constituencies.
Karnataka: Four Seats
The four constituencies going to polls are South-East Graduates, West Graduates, North-East Teachers and Bengaluru Teachers.
Uttar Pradesh: 11 Constituencies
Uttar Pradesh will see elections in Lucknow Graduates, Varanasi, Agra Graduates, Meerut Graduates, Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates, Lucknow Teachers, Varanasi Teachers, Agra Teachers, Meerut Teachers, Bareilly-Moradabad Teachers and Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers constituencies.
Bihar: Eight Constituencies
In Bihar, polling will be held for the Patna Graduates, Darbhanga Graduates, Tirhut Graduates, Kosi Graduates, Patna Teachers, Darbhanga Teachers, Tirhut Teachers and Saran Teachers constituencies.
With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the concerned constituencies.
