Dehradun. The district administration and police have stepped up efforts to prevent recurring road accidents in the Mohabbewala area of Dehradun. Taking note of the road accident reported in the area on September 20, Dehradun District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police jointly inspected the Delhi-Dehradun Highway and the accident-prone stretch on September 21.
During the inspection, the officials assessed the situation at the site and reviewed the possible factors behind repeated accidents in the area. Officials from the concerned departments were directed to undertake a detailed technical assessment and take immediate corrective measures to improve road safety.
Technical investigation into accidents ordered
The District Magistrate and SSP directed the concerned departments to conduct a detailed and technical investigation into the accidents reported in the Mohabbewala area.
The assessment will cover several factors, including road engineering, identified black spots, speeding and violations of traffic rules. Officials have been asked to analyse these aspects together rather than focusing on a single possible cause.
Based on the findings, a comprehensive action plan will be prepared to address the safety concerns on the highway and reduce the possibility of further accidents.
Road engineering and black spots to be examined
During the inspection, officials were asked to closely examine the road infrastructure and identify locations that may be contributing to accidents. The road engineering aspects of the stretch will be reviewed to determine whether any changes or improvements are required.
Black spots and other accident-prone locations will also be assessed as part of the exercise. The administration has directed the concerned departments to incorporate the findings into the proposed action plan.
Focus on speeding and traffic violations
Overspeeding and violations of traffic rules will also form part of the assessment. Officials have been instructed to examine traffic movement in the area and identify factors related to vehicle speed and road-user behaviour that may be contributing to accidents.
The administration has stressed the need for coordinated action so that infrastructure-related issues and traffic violations can be addressed together.
Large warning signs to be installed
To alert motorists about the accident-prone stretch, officials have been directed to install large warning signboards in the area. The signs will be aimed at making drivers more aware of the road conditions and encouraging them to drive carefully.
The warning boards are expected to provide advance information to motorists approaching the sensitive stretch, allowing them to remain alert and regulate their speed accordingly.
Rumble strips ordered
Officials have also been directed to install rumble strips at appropriate locations. The measure is intended to encourage drivers to reduce speed and exercise greater caution while passing through the accident-prone stretch.
The concerned departments will assess the appropriate locations and take necessary action for their installation as part of the road safety measures.
Immediate implementation of action plan
The DM and SSP directed the concerned officials to ensure that the proposed action plan is implemented without delay. They stressed that the measures should translate into on-ground improvements rather than remain limited to planning and paperwork.
The departments concerned have been asked to coordinate closely and implement the required safety measures on priority.
NHAI, RTO and police officials present
Officials from the administration, NHAI, Regional Transport Office and police were present during the joint inspection. The officials shared information regarding road conditions, traffic movement and safety concerns in the area.
The administration and police emphasised coordination among all departments so that corrective measures can be implemented effectively.
